I was honoured to be asked to illustrate The Inner Islands Trilogy, which is set in the Pacific West coast in a future time.
This is a series of middle school illustrated chapter books following some talking animal friends as they stumble across something the long-lost humans left behind. Gradually through many adventures, they find out more about themselves and the world they have inherited.
The more I drew each character in all the different situations and experiences they go through, the more I came to love them.
Cedar Island Dreams
It was such a joy to get to know these delightful characters through drawing them - Anforth the raccoon who is more resilient than he realizes, his best friend Flutesam the otter, who always thinks he saves the day, and Crow who more often does. This small gang of friends have amazing adventures and come back to tell the tale.
A Knock at the Door
Again, I had so much fun illustrating the wonder our friends experience as they continue their adventures with some new friends including Rufus the seawolf and Ru-shi the rescued sailor raccoon. Exploring the islands by sailboat, going underwater and even becoming unintentionally airborne are all part of the excitement.
Where the Humans Went
The final book of The Inner Islands Trilogy. Where did the humans go and what does it all mean? As our intrepid friends try to find out, more adventures ensue. I had the great fun of illustrating even more strange places for our animal friends to explore in this one including tunnels and even outerspace.
