I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and while I have spent time living in Europe and Asia, I have always returned to this country. I now live on Gabriola Island in British Columbia where the landscape, ocean, and sky—all of them rich with living things--are never-ending inspirations. My paintings all come from the same place: – a meditation on my love for the natural world, this spectacular coast, and the creatures we share this special place with. My works are painted haikus that express an ephemeral moment and hold it up for the viewer to share.
In recent years, I have been engaged in a series of explorations of transitions and relationships: the boundary between realistic representation and abstraction in the local landscape, and the relationship between time and experience as the years and moments pass. It’s the mystery and potential of where I am going with my art that keeps me moving forward. And especially in these uncertain and difficult times, I have made a conscious choice to focus on beauty, seeing joy and hope wherever possible.
